Georgetown trailhead Potomac River View Dalecarlia Tunnel Trail at Bradley Blvd.

The Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) is a shared-use trail from Georgetown
to Silver Spring, MD suitable for walkers, joggers, bikers, and rollerbladers.

What's New:
 • NPS Trails Days outreach Aug. 2 & 3 at Fletchers Cove.
 • Be alert for trucks and paving activity at Palisades.
 • The Spring 2008 Crescent Newsletter is now online (in pdf format).

The Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail, a volunteer organization, has spearheaded efforts since 1986 to develop this first-class hiker-biker trail. A recent Traffic Survey shows that the Trail is one of the most heavily used trails in the nation.

B&O Trains have given way to trail users on the Rock Creek Trestle.
The Trail is a rail-trail, being built upon the abandoned railbed of the 11 mile Georgetown Branch of the B&O Railroad. The Trail is now complete as a hard surface trail from Georgetown to Bethesda, and as a temporary gravel trail from Bethesda to Rosemary Hills, in west Silver Spring. Four bridges and two tunnels offer trail users gentle gradients and grade-separated roadway crossings.

The trail will not be finished until it is completed as a paved off-road trail into downtown Silver Spring. The Coalition continues to work to complete the Trail and to provide features to make the Trail more attractive and fun to use.

Much remains to be done to complete this wonderful trail and to make it a delight for all.
